Well the Moon was full

and now it's not, but I did see it, just wasn't able to post.

I spent my full moon up in Michigan with my family saying goodbye to my older sister.  After fighting cancer for 5 1/2 years and winning lots of battles, cancer finally won the war.

I'm so proud of my oldest sister, she was one of 2 women in her dental class at University of Michigan and went on to graduate in the 10% of her class.   She went back to school and specialized in children's dentistry and my kids were among her first customers.  She got them all t-shirts one year that said "I love my Dentist, she's my Aunt"….

The picture is of my sister Carol, me and my sister Linda, as sisters go we are very close - 3 years between myself and Carol with Linda in-between.  I have a younger sister and brother, the picture with the 4 are Me (blurry) Linda, Annie (youngest sister) and Julia (niece)

I miss my sister Carol and love her to the moon and back.  I feel so very blessed to have had a wonderful childhood and to be able to stay close to my siblings even thought miles now separate us.  I try not to pass up an opportunity to go to family functions, have lots of memories of good times.  My sister may be gone, but not my memories of her, they will last forever.

So what did I accomplish in August?  Not a whole lot but here is my progress.

I finally got around to sewing up all of the square and putting together the rag quilt for my grand niece Everett Pearl (see picture of her and her parents)  I have the blanket across our king size bed, so you can see that I got a little carried away making a "baby" blanket.  It ended up being 42" X 72".  I guess it can be used for a while and should keep her warm for a long time.   I managed to baptize her with my tears and got in lots of kisses and hugs.  She was so good being passed around between cousins, aunties and uncles.

I also worked on my SB stocking, Tina's Stocking for my niece Olivia.  I won't call it 1/2 done, but pretty close.  I will work on it some more this month in hopes of getting it done soon.  I had also started her rag quilt, but ran out of cotton batting for the middle of the squares.  I was short 9!!  So I brought some back batting with me from my stash at home and should be able to get it done soon too.  Making progress little by little.

The question for this full moon is:

Topic for next time: Pick one of the WIP pieces you’ve stitched on this month, and tell us about your stitching journey with the piece.

Since I only worked on one project this month it wasn't hard to pick which one to talk about.  The reason I chose this one to work on was because it wasn't complicated and I could just enjoy the stitching processes without have to do a lot of counting.  I needed something to occupy my mind, while not taxing it.   I love doing these stocking and wish I would have taken pictures of all of the stockings I've done before giving away, but never thought about it at the time.

My focus for September will be my fairy who just needs beads added and this stocking.  Really want a couple more finishes before the end of the year.

Sandy

  4. So sorry to read about your sister. How awful for your family. But still comforting to know that you still have all those memories of happy times together throughout the years, and she will always be with you in spirit:)
