No Stitching on the Western Front :(

Well another week has gone by and no stitching on my part at all.  Hopefully I'll remember which end of the needle to thread.  My lady is calling my name - she is so close to being done - I know I could complete her in a weekend.

I did start the wee one on her own stitching project, but we didn't get very far.  She is having fun, but as an almost perfectionist, it is driving me crazy!!  Notice I said ALMOST - I do let some things slide, but not quite this much.  We will continue, and even though this will never be an heirloom, it will always be special.  I'm not sure she is ready for the other kits, but might cheat and use some glue to hold the one together and then let her sew it herself.   The other kit is for 8 and older, she is 5 - almost 6, I guess I'm a little ahead of myself - this one was for 6 and older.  She is a smart cookie and loves doing crafts, so I think I've found my person to leave my beloved stash - no yard sale here!!  Unless of course it's a yard sale for other stitchers.  Need to locate the glue stick this morning and get the pieces all glued together, I know it's around here someplace.

Got the wee one some new socks - her Mom (my darling daughter) only packed one pair!!!  Well actually she had packed their stuff in two suitcases when she came up to KY for her sister's graduation. Then we took the wee one back to here with us and she went back to Nashville to move into their new apartment.  Anyways, the socks and hair supplies all ended up in Nashville with her, so we' went out and got new - figured in 6 weeks most of the hair care would be used and children can always use more socks.   Since I'm a big believe in letting her curls go free, I hadn't gotten any hair ties, well Momma sent several in a package to the wee one, so at the wee ones request, we put them in her hair yesterday.

As a good grandmother, I washed all of her socks before letting her wear them (that never happened with my own kids, so you see I'm a much better grandmother).  What I want to point out is here is living proof that washing machines really do eat socks!!  These went in new  - 12 pairs, only 11 pairs came out and one odd sock.....OK the other one was found a few days later, but for a few days I really believed that lost socks were the fault of the washer and not the wearer. Mine you when we first moved here and I did wash I had odd socks!!  Those have never been found, so I really think the washer is to blame - it just felt bad this time and coughed it back up.

I still haven't had the opportunity to sew up the rag quilt - you can see what my sewing machine cabinet looks like right now.   The baby shower was this weekend, so I missed it, but given it's been in the 80's and 90's where my niece lives, I really don't think she will miss it yet.  The baby isn't due for another 7 weeks, so I still have some time to finish it before the big even, but it's at least 10 weeks before the weather will cool off any sooooooo..... lots of time :).

Since my niece also got married, I owe her some sort of stitched wedding gift - I've done one for  my other niece and nephew - so will need to pull something out of the stash to work on.  I'm thinking one of Leigh's Fat Cats, but first I need to finish the Dragon for my son, he's been married for over 3 years now.  The other 2 canvases I did were so easy to do, the stitches just called out to me, but the dragon is different, nothing seems to work - so I'm thinking I might just do it all in basket weave and call it a day.

Would show you the rest of the room, but way too embarrassed.   Once the wee one goes home I'll straight it up and hopefully find the remotes to the TV - then I can get in and do some serious sewing.  In that mess someplace is my Thimbleberry 2009 quilt squares that are ready to be assembled and my Dr. Seuss Take 5 quilt top waiting for the borders to be attached.  I really do want to finish up 2 quilts before the year end.   I also want to move my cutting tables out into the living room and spend a day cutting out quilt squares for my next two quilting projects.  I really don't like to cut stuff out, so I have to force myself to do it all at one time, then I can spend time just sewing, which is the part I love.

The last picture is the wee one at one of our favorite places to eat - Donna loves Chinese food - had two bowls of egg drop soup!!

Hope you are all getting some of your projects completed.  I lurk on other blogs I'm seeing that many of you are.....one day soon I'll join the Finisher's club and post something.  Until then I'll just keep lurking.....wishing and keeping the credit card away from the computer.  When I'm not stitching I tend to be on the search for that perfect next project and I've seen way too many lately that I really want to start.

  1. That plastic canvas owl will be a treasure for sure! Look at that yarn going every which way! What a good grandma you are to stock up on socks! I'm sure you'll be so relieved to get into the craft room and start making quilts and cutting and sewing and stitching all kinds of things soon!

  2. Responding to your question as to who won, the Rays! It was a close one though. Detroit is also my "home" team. I am from just north of Lansing originally. Grew up watching all of the Detroit teams. Went to MSU. The night I went was Big 10 Alumni Night. Was asked who I was cheering for. My response: whoever gets the hit! LOL...I'll always have a spot in my heart for the Tigers.

    1. what a small world - I am a MSU graduate too :) So is my Dad and my youngest sister. My oldest sister disgraced the family and went to UofM. I grew up in Saginaw, not far from Lansing.
